ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Griffon Baseball kept it close but couldn't keep it clean, committing four errors in Wednesday's 6-2 loss to No. 10 Central Missouri at the Spring Sports Complex's Griffon Baseball Field.
Central Missouri (16-3, 10-0 MIAA) made Missouri Western (4-15, 2-8 MIAA) hurt early with John Prudhom's two-run bomb off of Zach Cushing in the top of the first inning. The Griffons came back swinging with a
Brenden Andersen RBI single that scored
Alex Crouch, cutting the lead in half at 2-1. Later with MWSU trailing 3-1,
Brady Holden scored
Caden Kohout on an RBI groundout to second base and kept the Griffons close with the best team in the conference.
However, the Mules are the top team in the MIAA for a reason. A two-run double by Jacob Steele put UCM up 5-2 in the third. Central Missouri tacked on another run on in the sixth with a sac fly by Aiden Watson.
Since it was a one-off game, both teams used multiple pitchers. Missouri Western's
Jeremy Schneider pitched the most out of any pitcher in the game, going 3 1/3 innings. He also collected two of MWSU's eight strikeouts for the game.
Robert Farrell fanned three batters of his own in the ninth.
