ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Missouri Western took down the Avila Eagles on Saturday afternoon behind big performances from
Connie Clarke and
Jordan Cunningham, stretching the Griffon winning streak to three after a win inside the Looney Complex.
The Griffons (5-2) showed their muscles with the 94-36 win. Avila (1-6) are now 0-3 at the MWSU Fieldhouse, even though this was an exhibition for the Eagles.
Clarke finished the game with 18 points, shooting 8-for-8 from the floor, only the fourth Griffon to do so. Cunningham was right behind her, finishing with 17 points.
Camille Evans finished with nine rebounds, and
Alyssa Bonilla had seven of her own. Twelve Griffons scored, and 13 played.
The first quarter was a route for Missouri Western, starting with a 6-0 run. Another 6-0 run and a 9-0 run saw the Griffons up 26-9, at the first-quarter break.
Quarter two was more of the same. The Griffons held Avila to eight points in the quarter, while scoring 20. The gap widened to 29 points, and the half finished in favor of MWSU, 46-17.
The Griffons continued to roll in the third quarter. Missouri Western made 5-of-10 from three in the quarter and 11-of-19 from the field, shooting their best numbers of the game.
The fourth quarter was slightly less explosive, but the Griffons still won the quarter by 10. Missouri Western still shot 56% from the floor, and the game finished, 94-36.
