Eames' Double-Double Not Enough in New Year's Night Loss to Pitt

Griffons fall 72-64 to Kim Anderson's Gorillas

ST. JOSEPH, Mo.-  New Year's Day brought a winter snow storm to St. Joseph. With temperatures in the single digits outside, the Missouri Western men couldn't shake a cold shooting night inside in a 72-64 loss to Pittsburg State.

The Griffons (8-6, 4-2 MIAA) went cold in the first half and couldn't recover, shooting 35% (21-60 FG) from the field and an uncharacteristic 11% (2-18) from three-point land in the loss.  The Griffons comitted 15 turnovers and could manage just 4 assists.

Will Eames led Western with 20 points (7-16 FG) and 13 rebounds, while JaQuaylon Mays added 14 points (4-18 FG) in defeat.

The Gorillas (4-9, 2-4 MIAA) were led by the returning Bobby Arthur-Williams Jr., who led all scorers with 24 points and 10 rebounds in his first game of the 2021-22 season.

Western returns to action on January 6th at Emporia State.  The Griffons' January 3rd game against Missouri Southern has been postponed due to Covid-19 protocols within the MSSU program.  The game will be rescheduled at a later date.
