Softball sweeps doubleheader at Pittsburg State

PITTSBURG, Kan.  – The Missouri Western softball team swept a doubleheader at Pittsburg State Saturday.  The Griffons won the opener, 7-4, and then beat the Gorillas in game two, 4-2, as they improve to 27-15 this season and 16-8 in the MIAA.

GAME 1 – Missouri Western 7, Pittsburg State 4
Kalyn Damgaard helped get the Griffons out to a 4-0 lead as she had a two RBI single in the second and then drove in a run with a single in the third inning.  Pitt State rallied to pull within one run, 4-3, after six innings but Missouri Western put the game away in the seventh.  Emma Hoffart and Chloe Armstrong hit back-to-back home runs and Maddie Swanson had an RBI double.

Swanson and Damgaard led the Griffons with two hits each, while Armstrong scored twice.  Sydney Rader (13-6) earned the win in the circle as she allowed two earned runs and six hits in seven innings.  Rader struck out 10 and walked two.

GAME 2 – Missouri Western 4, Pittsburg State 2
The Gorillas jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning before Missouri Western rallied with a four-run third and that was all they'd need.  Chloe Armstrong had an RBI single and then Sydney Rader hit a three-run home run to cap off that third inning.

Armstrong had two of the Griffons' four hits, while Damgaard added a single.  Kaili Hinds (12-6) went six innings to get the win as she allowed two runs on nine hits, and she struck out three.  Natalie Kissinger worked a perfect seventh inning for her first career save.
