ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Missouri Western baseball team lost the series finale to Fort Hays State Saturday, 12-2, as the Griffons lost all three game to the Tigers. MWSU drops to 8-19 this season and 6-15 in the MIAA.
After falling behind 1-0 in the second inning, Missouri Western scored singles runs in the third and fourth innings to take a 2-1 lead.
Maurice Bruce was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the third and
Iasid Bernal hit his first home run of the season in the fourth inning. The Griffons then went cold offensively as they didn't get another hit in the game until there were two outs in the ninth inning.
Fort Hays State tied the game with one run in the fifth and they blew the game open with two runs in the eighth to break the tie, and they put up eight runs in the top of the ninth inning.
Jack Schmedding suffered the loss in relief as he allowed five runs on three hits in 1.2 innings.
Colby Tam led the MWSU offense with two hits, while
Gustavo Gonzales scored the other run.
Missouri Western will be on the road next weekend as they play a three-game series at Emporia State beginning at Friday at 6:00 p.m.
