Crump hits two HRs to lead Griffon baseball past RiverHawks

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Missouri Western baseball team won the final game of their series with Northeastern State Sunday at the Griffon Spring Sports Complex, 8-3.  MWSU improves to 6-14 and 5-10 in the MIAA.
 
Bailey Crump had a big day for Missouri Western as he got the Griffs off to a great start with a two-out, three-run home run in the first inning to cap off a four-run inning.  The RiverHawks answered back with one run in the second and two more in the fourth inning to pull within one run before Crump came up big again.  He hit his second three-run home run of the game in the sixth inning as MWSU had another four-run inning and that was all they'd need.
 
Crump finished 4-for-4 has he also had two singles.  Colby Tam and Sal Jacobo added two hits each, Chaz Verduzco had one hit and one RBI, and Maurice Bruce had one hit and two runs scored.
 
Jacob Weirich (1-2) earned the win in relief as he threw five shutout innings and allowed four hits.  Weirich struck out four and walked one batter.  Roy Robles started and went four innings.  He gave up two earned runs and four hits, and he struck out two.
 
Missouri Western is on the road this week as they play a non-conference game at William Jewell Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.  The Griffons then open a three-game series at Northwest Missouri State Friday at 12:00 p.m.
