Griffon Softball sweeps No. 12 Rogers State

CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Missouri Western softball team won two games at No. 12 Rogers State on Friday to improve their record to 15-5 this season and 4-0 in the MIAA.  The Griffons won the opener, 4-1, and then blanked the Hillcats in game two, 5-0, to complete the sweep.

GAME 1 – Missouri Western 4, #12 Rogers State 1
Emma Hoffart got the Griffons off to a quick start in the opener as she hit a two-run home run in the top of the first inning and that turned out to be enough for MWSU starter Sydney Rader.  The freshman threw her sixth complete game of the season as she was able to scatter 10 hits over the seven innings.  Rader struck out two and walked two as she improves to 7-2.

Taylor Hoelscher added an RBI in the third inning as she was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and then Sydni Hawkins hit a solo home run in the seventh to cap off the scoring.  Hawkins finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored.

GAME 2 – Missouri Western 5, #12 Rogers State 0
Griffon starter Kaili Hinds followed up Rader's performance in game one with her own complete game as she was able to shutout Rogers State and improve to 6-1.  Hinds went seven innings and allowed just three hits as she struck out two and walked one.

Missouri Western jumped out to an early lead in the nightcap as well as they scored an unearned run in the first inning.  Rachel Stewart then hit her first home run of season in the fourth to make it a 2-0 game and MWSU tacked on three two-out runs in the seventh inning to pull away from Rogers State.

Hawkins and Stewart led the Griffs with two hits each, Hoffart drove in two runs and Brea Blanton added one run and one RBI.
