Griffon Baseball Splits At Newman To Win The Series

WICHITA, Kan. – The Missouri Western baseball team split the final two games of its series at Newman Saturday to take two of three from the Jets over the weeknd.  MWSU won the opener, 11-7, before falling in the second game, 9-6, as they're now 5-12 overall and 4-8 in the MIAA.
 
GAME 1 – Missouri Western 11, Newman 7
The Griffons jumped all over Newman in game one as Colby Tam and Maurice Bruce homered in the first inning to take a 3-0 lead.  They added two more in the third and five runs in the fourth inning as it was capped off by a two-run home run by Alex Crouch.  MWSU built a 10-0 lead and cruised to their third straight win.
 
Tam added another home run in the seventh inning as he finished with four RBI, while Ben Tsui and Sal Jacobo added two hits each.  Tam, Tsui and Alex Rice each scored two runs.
 
Jordan Akins earned his first win as he went 7.0 innings and allowed three earned runs on four hits.  He struck out 10 and walked four.
 
GAME 2 – Newman 9, Missouri Western 6
Alex Crouch and Colby Tam got Missouri Western off to another good start in game two as Crouch had an RBI single and Tam went deep for the third time on the day with a three-run home run.  Newman then scored nine of the next 10 runs and the Griffon were unable to rally.
 
Tam had three hits, three RBI and one run, while Crouch also had three hits, two runs and two RBI.  Tsui added two hits, one RBI and one run. 
 
Roy Robles started and went 5.2 innings.  He allowed four earned runs, eight hits, and he struck out seven.
 
UP NEXT
Missouri Western will play a midweek game Tuesday as they travel to Liberty, Missouri to play William Jewell at 1:00 p.m.
