MWSU Softball Drops Two On Day One of Hy-Vee Classic

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Missouri Western softball had its six-game winning streak come to an end Friday night as they lost the first two games of the Hy-Vee Classic at the Spring Sports Complex.  The Griffons were shutout in their opener by Concordia-St. Paul, 3-0, and they lost to Winona State, 10-1.  MWSU falls to 11-3 this season.
 
GAME 1 – Concordia-St. Paul 3, Missouri Western 0
Missouri Western was limited to just five hits in their first game Friday and had multiple base runners in just two innings against the Golden Bears.  At one point, CSP pitcher Bryanna Olson retired 14 consecutive Griffon batters.  Sydni Hawkins went 2-for-3 to lead MWSU, while Brea Blanton, Chloe Armstrong and Taylor Hoelscher added one single each.
 
Kaili Hinds (4-1) suffered her first loss as he allowed two earned runs and four hits in three innings.  Natalie Kissinger was dominate in relief for the Griffons as she threw four scoreless innings, striking out five and she didn't walk a batter.
 
GAME 2 – Winona State 10, Missouri Western 1
Missouri Western struggled all over the field against unbeaten Winona State in game two as they had just two hits and committed six errors.   The Griffons committed just one error during their six-game winning streak. 
 
Seven of the 10 runs scored by the Warriors were unearned.  Sydney Rader dropped her first game in the circle as she allowed three earned runs and seven hits in four innings.  She struck out four and walked a season-high four batters.
 
Blanton had an RBI single for Missouri Western, while Hoelscher reached base twice with a walk and a single.
 
UP NEXT
The Griffons will play two more games at the Hy-Vee Classic Saturday as they host Bemidji State at 12:00 p.m. and Minnesota State at 2:00 p.m. at the Spring Sports Complex.
