ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Missouri Western baseball dropped the final two game of their series with Washburn Saturday as they played a doubleheader at the Griffon Spring Sports Complex. MWSU lost the first game Saturday, 8-0, and fell in the nightcap, 8-1, as they drop to 2-5 and 1-2 in the MIAA.
GAME 1 – Washburn 8, Missouri Western 0
The Griffons were three-hit by WU in the first game and didn't get their first hit until a
Maurice Bruce single in the fifth inning.
Alex Crouch and
Bailey Crump also had singles for Missouri Western. MWSU struck out 16 times as a team and committed four errors in the game.
Eight different pitchers threw for the Griffons as
Justin Wood suffered the loss despite giving up just one run and two hits in one inning of work.
GAME 2 – Washburn 8, Missouri Western 1
After falling behind 2-0 after two innings in game two, MWSU's
Andrew Meier doubled home a run to make it a one-run game. It stayed that way until the seventh inning when the Ichabods pulled away with two runs in the seventh and four more in the eighth inning.
Jacob Schmedding started and took the loss as he gave up two runs and four hits in 2.1 innings.
Brady Holden had two hits to lead the Griffons five-hit attack, while Crump, Meier and
Colby Tam had the others.
