TOPEKA, Kan. -- Allie Kerns led the Griffons with nine kills on Friday night, but Missouri Western couldn't withstand 53 kills from Washburn, falling 3-0 (25-9, 25-15, 25-11) on the night.
Missouri Western was solid on the attack in the first set, posting a .139 hitting percentage with eight kills, but ran into a Washburn buzzsaw as the Ichabods picked up 19 kills without an error for a .475 hitting mark.
The Griffons hung tight through the first 26 points of the second set, holding a couple of brief leads in the early going. Washburn broke the set open with a four-point run to take a 18-12 lead and close out the set 25-15.
The third set was much like the first, as Washburn collected 19 kills behind a .531 hitting percentage, with Missouri Western mustering just seven kills in the set.
Missouri Western will close out the 2021 regular season at Emporia State on Saturday. First serve is set for 3 p.m., with the Griffons currently holding seventh place in the MIAA standings.
