ST. JOSEPH – Griffon Women's Basketball (20-7, 12-6) hit the 20-win mark for the first time in three seasons by dominating rival Northwest Missouri State (11-16, 6-12), Tuesday night, in the MWSU Fieldhouse. Missouri Western shot close to 53% from the field and limited Northwest to 33% shooting in a 77-49 victory.
 
Missouri Western jumped out to a 21-10 lead after the first quarter by shooting 66.7% from the field and 80% from the free throw line. After a low-scoring third quarter, Northwest got red-hot from 3-point range and outscored the Griffons 27-19 in the quarter. The 27 Bearcat points in the third were five more than Northwest scored in the other three quarters combined. A 19-2 Griffon run to start the fourth quarter iced the game for Missouri Western.
 
NOTABLES

• The Griffons have now won nine-straight over their rivals in St. Joseph and have won 12 of the last 13 in the series overall
• MWSU out-rebounded the Bearcats 40-25 and outscored them 42-16 in the paint
• The Griffons shot 66.7% in the first quarter, 61.5% in the third quarter and 57.1% in the fourth quarter
• MWSU outscored Northwest 25-6 in the fourth quarter
• Corbyn Cunningham led all scorers with 26 points on 10 of 17 shooting. She added 16 rebounds.
• Anastacia Johnson scored 16 points with a team-high five assists
• Kylee Williams added 10 points as did Chris Wilson
