Men's Basketball Returns to Fieldhouse to Host Pitt State, Missouri Southern

Griffons to protect Looney against two quality opponents

ST. JOSEPH – Missouri Western Men's Basketball is seeing double this week with two familiar opponents at MWSU Fieldhouse. The Griffons (14-12, 10-5 MIAA) will host Pittsburg State (9-15, 5-10 MIAA) on Wednesday and will close out the week's action on Saturday as they take on #14 Missouri Southern (19-5, 12-3 MIAA).
 
As the Griffons return home, they look to protect Looney and continue their undefeated streak at home against two quality opponents. The Griffons topped the Gorillas in Pittsburg last Wednesday 95-79, but fell in Joplin to Southern on Saturday 97-87.
 
PREVIEWING THE GRIFFONS
 
  • Missouri Western has cracked the top-five in scoring offenses in the MIAA averaging 78 points per game.
  • The Griffons also lead the league in blocked shots averaging 4.15 rejections per contest.

  • Reese Glover also ranks in the top-10 of the league in that category averaging 2.4 made three-pointers per game. Reese ranks third in the conference in three-point field goal percentage per game averaging 42% from beyond the arc.
  • Alex John and Tyree Martin rank in the top-10 of the MIAA in blocked shots each averaging 1.1  rejections per game.

  • The Gorillas rank sixth in the conference in blocked shots averaging 3.13 rejections per game.
  • PSU also averages 10.6 offensive rebounds per game ranking them second in the league in that stat category.
  • Pitt State ranks sixth in the MIAA in three-point field goal percentage averaging 37% from beyond the arc.
  • A.J. Walker is the leading scorer for the Gorillas averaging 17 points per game.
  • Walker averages 43% from three-point range ranking him in the top-five of the league in three-point field goal percentage.
  • Christian Edmondson ranks in the top-five of the MIAA in blocked shots averaging 1.4 rejections per game.
 
SCOUTING MISSOURI SOUTHERN
 
  • The Lions are tied for the league lead in scoring averaging 84.7 points per game.
  • MSSU also leads the league in rebounding averaging 38.2 boards per game.

  • Cam Martin averages 23.3 points per contest for the Lions ranking him as the best in the conference in that stat category.
