TAHLEQUAH, OK.- The Missouri Western women's season-opening Oklahoma road trip concluded with an 82-74 loss at Northeastern State on Saturday.
The Griffons (1-1, 1-1 MIAA) trailed most of the way in a close contest, but couldn't keep the RiverHawks (2-0, 2-0 MIAA) off of the free throw line. NSU made 26-28 attempts from the charity stripe, which was the ultimate decider of the game.
Freshman
Jordan Cunningham led the Griffons in scoring with 19 points (7-16 FG), 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Junior
Asia McCoy added 14 points and 6 rebounds, while freshman point guard
Camille Evans added 12 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals.
NOTABLES
- The Griffons shot 43.3% (29-67) from the field and 29.4% (5-17) from three-point range.
- 13 players saw action for MWSU, and 34 of the team's 74 points came from the bench
- Missouri Western was 73.3% (11-15) at the free throw line, while NSU went 26-28.
- Freshman Josie Weishaar had 8 points and 4 rebounds in 11 minutes.
- The Griffons turned it over 19 times, but forced 15 NSU turnovers.
- MWSU has scored 83 and 74 points respectively in its first two games, but has surrendered at least 80 points (81, 82) in both contests.
