ST. JOSEPH – With new faces in the coaching ranks and eight new student athletes on the roster, it is safe to say the Missouri Western women's basketball program is set to take off with a fresh mindset and a new attitude. The 2019-20 season is set to build on the positives from 2018, as well as reestablish traditions of success for the black and gold. Head Coach Candi Whitaker is entering her first season with the Griffons, and she has her team's minds set on creating new expectations going forward.
 
The Griffons open the 2019 season across town from the MWSU Fieldhouse in the St. Joseph Civic Arena, as they will play in the Hillyard Tip-Off Classic Nov. 8 and 9. They will immediately return to MWSU Fieldhouse to play their home opener against Southwest Baptist on Nov. 15 and will follow the game with the Bearcats to play the University of Saint Mary on Nov. 17. Following these games, the Griffons will open conference play on the road against Central Missouri on Dec. 5 and Lincoln on Dec. 7.
 
Home conference play will open for the Griffons on Jan. 4 versus Rogers State with nine home games against MIAA opponents following. These games will include matchups against Pittsburg State, Missouri Southern, and Northwest. Senior Day will be featured in the final home game of the year against Washburn on Feb. 29, in which the Griffons will honor six seniors for their contributions to the program.
