PITTSBURG, Kan. – Griffon Baseball (18-17, 15-12) scored in six different innings, but Pittsburg State's (23-18, 15-12) eight-run sixth inning gave the Gorillas a 14-10 series clinching victory on Saturday.
A wild back-and-forth contest, Missouri Western led 8-6 after scoring three in the top of the sixth. The lead didn't last long as Pitt State produced five hits and eight runs in the bottom half.
NOTABLES
- The Griffons continued to chip away at the Gorilla lead, leaving two on base after scoring one run in the eighth when a double play ended the inning
- Pitt State scored four in the second to take a 5-2 lead
- A Griffon run in the third, two in the fourth and the three-run sixth put MWSU back on top
- The teams combined for 27 hits, including six extra base hits each
- MWSU committed three errors in the game after a four-error game two of the series
- Seven Griffon pitchers were used, none pitching more than Carson Dwyre's 3 1/3 innings. He was charged with the loss
- Dusty Stroup, Andrew Curry and Fahd Shakeel had three hits apiece
- Shakeel had a double and a triple
