Griffon Tennis Falls to No. 7 Central Oklahoma

Missouri Western loses tough road matchup on Saturday.

EDMOND, Okla. – Missouri Western (8-9, 0-4 MIAA) took on one of the top teams in the nation on Saturday, suffering a 7-0 defeat to the seventh-ranked Bronchos (10-2, 4-0 MIAA) on Saturday afternoon. It was just the first time this season that the Griffons lost in a seven-point shutout.

After the first two doubles matches ended in Central Oklahoma shutouts, Joanna Abreu Roman and Karolina Ström lost in a close 6-4 match on the number one courts, giving the Bronchos the doubles point.

Bojana Vuksan and Karolina Ström were the only two Griffons to score more than two points in a set on Saturday. Vuksan nearly won the first set of her match on the number six court, but fell in a 7-6 tiebreaker. Ström fell by a score of 7-5, 6-3 on the number one courts, taking on a top-20 ranked opponent in Adel-Byanu Abidullina. Ström still leads the team with 11 wins this spring compared to just three losses.

Missouri Western will play the second and final game of its Oklahoma road trip when the team faces Northeastern State (4-6, 2-1 MIAA) on Sunday.
