Griffon Softball Splits a Pair of Run-Rule Games

Kinnaird throws one-hitter against Ouachita Baptist

BENTONVILLE, Ark. – It only took 12 innings for Griffon Softball (4-2) to play two games, Saturday, at the Arkansas-Monticello DII Challenge. Missouri Western opened the day with a 9-1 loss in six to Arkansas Tech (5-3) and followed that up with an 8-0 win in six over Ouachita Baptist (1-5).
 
GAME 2
Missouri Western 8, Ouachita Baptist 0 (6 innings)
  • Lexi Kinnaird picked up win No. 1 on the season, pitching a one-hit shutout that included three strikeouts
  • The Griffons went off in the first beginning with a leadoff double by Shelby Uhl who then promptly stole third
  • MWSU scored five runs in the first on four hits and two Ouachita errors
  • Uhl went 2-for-4 with a run and two stolen bases
  • Gabi Carter was 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored
  • Lauren Houston hit her first career home run, a two-run shot to left in the third
 
GAME 1
Arkansas Tech 9, Missouri Western 1 (6 innings)
  • A 1-1 tie with one out in the bottom of the fourth, Arkansas Tech opened things up with a grand slam
  • The grand slam chased starter Kenzie Hilzer from the game. Hilzer took the loss (1-1) and ended the game allowing five earned runs on three hits through 3 1/3. She walked five and struck out one
  • Cassidy Kelsheimer went 2-for-2 with a run scored and a double in the game
  • Uhl drove in the other run and went 1-for-3
