Griffon Women Return for Final Two Home Games

Griffons face Southwest Baptist and Central Missouri for the first time this season.

THIS WEEK IN GRIFFON WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Wednesday, Feb. 13, 5:30 p.m. vs. Southwest Baptist (6-16, 2-11 MIAA)
Saturday, Feb. 16, 2:00 p.m. vs. #24 Central Missouri (16-5, 9-4 MIAA)

ST. JOSEPH – With four of its final six remaining games on the road, Missouri Western Women's Basketball (11-11, 6-7 MIAA) will return to the MWSU Fieldhouse to play its final home games of the season this week as they take on Southwest Baptist and Central Missouri.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
  • Saturday will be Senior Day for Missouri Western's Brittany Atkins, Jessica Davies, Cera Ledbetter, Melia Richardson, and KeShara Scott. Richardson will be wrapping up a four-year career, while the other four seniors have been with the program for the past two seasons.
  • Despite reaching the midway point in February, the Griffons have not faced either Southwest Baptist or Central Missouri this season. They are the only two teams in the MIAA that Missouri Western has not yet played.
  • Wednesday's matchup will be a battle of strengths between the Missouri Western defense and the Southwest Baptist offense. The Southwest Baptist offense is averaging 75 points per game. Meanwhile, the Griffons have allowed at least 70 points just once in the last 10 games.
  • The Griffons will be squaring off against 2018 Missouri Western Athletics Hall of Fame inductee, Dave Slifer, on Saturday. Now the head coach at Central Missouri, Slifer coached for nine seasons at Missouri Western, a stint that included two MIAA titles and eight consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances.
  • With just six games remaining in the regular season, the Griffons sit in a three-way tie for seventh in the MIAA standings. With the top 10 teams making the conference tournament, each win moves the Griffons closer to clinching a spot.

MISSOURI WESTERN NOTES
  • Katrina Roenfeldt has risen to third in the MIAA in scoring with 16.5 points per game.
  • Missouri Western is 7-5 at home this season.
  • The Griffons' 3.5 turnover margin is the third-best in the MIAA.
  • Jessica Davies is the team's most efficient scorer at 54 percent shooting.

SCOUTING SOUTHWEST BAPTIST
  • The Bearcats enter Wednesday's matchup having lost five-straight games.
  • Caylee Richardson leads the team with over 14 points per game.
  • The Bearcats shoot 43 percent from the floor as a team.
  • Southwest Baptist has struggled on the road this season, going 0-9 away from home.

SCOUTING CENTRAL MISSOURI
  • Paige Redmond headlines a balanced Central Missouri offense, leading the team with 16 points per game.
  • Central Missouri is coming off of a national championship season in 2017-18.
  • The Jennies shoot more three's than any other team in the MIAA at over 26 per game.
  • The Jennies' ball movement on offense leads to 14 assists per game.
