Women's Basketball Splits Between Home and Road This Week

Griffons to host Peru State, travel to University of Illinois-Springfield

ST. JOSEPH – Missouri Western Women's Basketball (6-2, 1-1 MIAA) will host Peru State (3-6, 2-4 HAAC) on Monday and travel to University of Illinois-Springfield (4-3, 0-1 GLVC) on Wednesday to take on the Prairie Stars.
  
Missouri Western is coming off its first MIAA win last Saturday at Lincoln in which the Griffons kept the Blue Tigers scoreless from beyond the arc. Missouri Western will look to keep that momentum going throughout the next two contests.
 
PREVIEWING THE GRIFFONS
 
  • Missouri Western ranks second in the MIAA in field goal percentage, averaging 45% per contest.
  • The Griffons also rank in the top-five of the conference in steals per game average with a rate of 10.25 per contest.
  • Chris Wilson is fifth in the league in scoring averaging 16.1 points per contest. Wilson also ranks third in the MIAA in rebounding averaging 9.8 per contest.
  • Katrina Roenfeldt owns the second-best steals per game average in the conference, averaging three takeaways per game for the Griffons.
  • Corbyn Cunningham ranks third in the MIAA in field goal percentage, averaging 54% from the field.

SCOUTING PERU STATE
 
  • The Bobcats have lost three of the last four contests they played, with the most recent win being a 65-55 victory over Baker.
  • Peru State also ranks ninth at the Division I level of the NAIA in defending the three ball as opponents only average 24% from beyond the arc.
  • Alyssa Marsh-Contreras lead the way offensively for Peru State. She ranks 15th in the NAIA in points per game averaging 17.8 points per contest.
  • Giovanna Silva attacks the boards for the Bobcats averaging 6.8 rebounds per contest.
  • Daspin Bruning also averages .67 blocks per contest for the Bobcats.
 
SCOUTING ILLINOIS-SPRINGFIELD
 
  • The Prairie Stars also pride themselves on defending the three-pointer as they rank second in the GLVC in three-point field goal defense. Opponents average a mere 25% from three when playing against UIS.
  • UIS also ranks second in the GLVC in free throw percentage averaging 75% per contest from the line.
  • Lauren Ladowski ranks sixth in the GLVC in scoring, averaging 15.1 points per contest for the Prairie Stars.
  • Makenna Fee ranks in the top-15 in rebounding in the GLVC. The freshman averages 6.1 per game.
