WICHITA, Kan. – Griffon Volleyball (11-7, 5-5) bounced back with a sweep at Newman (0-20, 0-11) Saturday afternoon.
The Griffons held off Newman in the first and used two big runs in the second before blowing past the Jets in the third to avoid consecutive losses for the first time in a month.
NOTABLES
- Missouri Western hit .351 in the first set, .283 in the second and .250 in the first for a .296 percentage in the match, the team's best hitting percentage in a match since hitting .320 against Colorado Mesa on Sept. 14.
- The Griffons closed out the second set on a 6-2 run to take the set 25-20.
- MWSU jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the third and had a 6-0 run in the set before clinching the match with a 25-15 win in the set.
- It was MWSU's fourth straight three-set match and the fifth in its last six matches.
- MWSU had four aces, its most since six at Emporia State on Sept. 26.
- The Griffons' 44 kills were their second most in a three-set match this season.
- Lauren Murphy's 37 assists moved her past Jordan Chohon for fourth all-time at Missouri Western, second in the rally scoring era.
- Sam Duncan led the team with 11 kills on .526 hitting.
- Allie Kerns and Maryssa Recio each had nine kills. Kerns also added 16 digs.
