ST. JOSEPH – The Missouri Western baseball team (4-5) dropped consecutive games for the first time this season as St. Cloud State (2-0) took both games of the Griffons' home opening doubleheader.
The Huskies ran away with game one, 17-2 in a scheduled seven-inning game. The Griffons staked an early 2-0 lead in game two before falling 4-3.
NOTABLES
- MWSU led 2-0 in game two after two innings thanks to a two-RBI single by Michael Miller in the second
- St. Cloud State took a 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh before the Griffs tied it in the bottom half. A bases loaded walk in the eighth proved to be the game winner for SCSU.
- Griffon pitchers walked 15 St. Cloud State batters on the day, 12 in game one
- Fahd Shakeel, Levi Schreiner and Dusty Stroup recorded two hits apiece. Shakeel was 2-for-3
- Carson Dwyre went 6 1/3 in game two, striking out six. He allowed the one run in the fifth and both runs in the seventh were charged to the starter on just five hits. He walked just one batter
