Women’s Basketball to Take on Two Quality Opponents

Griffons travel to Truman before their home opener against Regis.

THIS WEEK IN GRIFFON WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Tuesday, Nov. 13, 5:30 p.m. at Truman (2-0)
Saturday, Nov. 17, 1:30 p.m. vs. Regis (1-1)

ST. JOSEPH – Missouri Western (2-0) will play a pair of nonconference games against two respectable programs this week in Truman and Regis. The Griffons are coming off a 2-0 start at the MIAA/NSIC Crossover last week where they beat both Upper Iowa and Southwest Minnesota State.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
  • Early season success may be something Coach Rob Edmisson is getting used to. Edmisson has a 35-6 record and .854 winning percentage in November over his seven years coaching at Missouri Western.
  • Depth will be a strength for the Griffons in the early season, as 10 players on the team average double-digit minutes.
  • Katrina Roenfeldt should continue to establish herself as a focal point in the offense. Roenfeldt is averaging 17 points per game and has attempted 28 shots over two games.
  • Free throw shooting has not been a strength for the Griffons over the first two games. The team is shooting just 58 percent from the line.
  • Although Tuesday's game will be a nonconference matchup, Truman and Missouri Western have a longstanding series from Truman's days in the MIAA. The Griffons have traditionally bested the Bulldogs and lead the all-time series 50-18.

SCOUTING THE GRIFFONS
  • The Griffons are limiting their opponents to 35 percent shooting in their two wins.
  • Cera Ledbetter is averaging 11 points and 6 rebounds per game after earning Honorable Mention All-MIAA last season.
  • Missouri Western forced 42 turnovers in the team's two games last weekend.
  • The Griffons have a 43 percent field goal percentage through two games.

TRUMAN
  • The Bulldogs won both of their two games by double-digits at the GMAC/GLVC Challenge last weekend.
  • Truman was picked fourth in the GLVC Preseason Coaches Poll.
  • Four out of the five starters from last season return in 2018-19.
  • Katie Jaseckas returns after winning GLVC Freshman of the year when she averaged 8 points, 12 rebounds, and nearly one block per game.
  • Senior Rachel Edmundson is averaging 11 points and 5 rebounds per game in the team's two wins this season.

REGIS
  • The Rangers went 1-1 in their first two games at the South Central Regional Conference Challenge.
  • Exactly half of Regis' field goal attempts are from three-point range and the Rangers are shooting 31 percent from deep.
  • Majestie Robinson is averaging 12 points per game after earning All-RMAC honors last season.
  • Regis is coming off of a 16-13 season and was picked third in the RMAC Preseason Coaches Poll.
  • The Rangers have struggled defensively so far this season, allowing their opponents to shoot 53 percent.
