Volleyball to Host Pitt State and Central Oklahoma

Griffons face two quality opponents in next two MIAA league games

Friday, Oct. 5, 7:00 p.m. vs. Pitt State (15-5, 4-3 MIAA) – Military Appreciation Night
Saturday, Oct. 6, 3:00 p.m. vs. #18 Central Oklahoma (17-4, 5-2 MIAA)
 
ST. JOSEPH – After splitting its two games over the previous weekend, Missouri Western Volleyball (10-9, 3-4 MIAA) will continue the homestand with two more games this weekend. The Griffons will be looking to pick up some more MIAA league wins against two quality opponents.
 
 
5 THINGS TO WATCH
  • The Griffons have split all three weekends this season in which they play two MIAA league opponents.
  • Missouri Western has had success when keeping matches short. They are 38-19 in matches that last only three sets and are 2-9 in matches that go at least four sets.
  • The Griffons currently sit at 10-9 but were in a very similar situation at this point last season. Last season the Griffons held an 11-9 record before winning 13 straight games.
  • The last time the Griffons played Central Oklahoma in the regular season they ended a 23-match home winning streak for the Bronchos.
  • Missouri Western Volleyball has not lost to Pitt State since November 2014.
 
SCOUTING THE GRIFFONS
  • Liv Winker is averaging 11.2 assists per set over the last three matches.
  • Rachel Losch has been very efficient since becoming more involved in the Griffon offense. Losch is hitting .405 in the last four matches.
  • Stephanie Doak averages the second-most kills per set in the MIAA at 3.78.
  • Audrey Keim is third in the MIAA in digs per set with 5.28.
  • The Griffons have hit .206 as a team this season while holding opponents to .169.
 
SCOUTING PITT STATE
  • After starting the season 13-2, the Gorillas have lost three of their last five.
  • Pitt State has held its opponents to a .172 hit percentage.
  • Lauren Regier leads the Gorillas with 216 kills, averaging 2.92 per set.
  • Lauren Dunn leads the MIAA with 49 service aces.
  • Morgan Henning is fifth in the MIAA with a .340 hitting percentage.
 
SCOUTING CENTRAL OKLAHOMA
  • The Bronchos have gone 2-2 in their last four matches after winning 14 straight.
  • Central Oklahoma has the fourth-best hitting percentage in the MIAA at .238.
  • Taylor Bevis is third in the MIAA and right behind Stephanie Doak in kills per set, averaging 3.73 per season.
  • Ericka Scholl is second in the MIAA with 29 aces.
  • The Bronchos use two primary setters. Ericka Scholl averages 5.95 assists per set and McKenzie Fyfe avrages 4.71 per set.
