Griffons Improve to 4-0

MWSU with best opening record since 2003

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – After two more wins on Saturday at the Ronnie Hawkins Invitational, the Missouri Western softball team is 4-0 for the first time since 2003.
 
The Griffons dispatched co-host Henderson State 4-0 in the day's first game before taking care of Northeastern State, 6-2. 
 
HEADLINES
  • Griffon pitchers gave up just six hits combined on Saturday
  • Kenzie Hilzer didn't allow a hit against Northeastern State until back-to-back solo home runs in the fourth, her only two hits allowed through six innings
  • Barbara Billingsley worked around a bases loaded, no outs jam in the sixth inning of the win over Henderson State
  • Missouri Western stole five bases in the win over Henderson State
  • The 4-0 is the best for the program since starting 6-0 in 2003
 
TOP PERFORMERS
  • Shelbie Atwell went 6-for-7 at the plate with three doubles and three runs scored
  • Morgan Rathmann was 3-for-7 with two runs scored, a double and a stolen base
  • Sydney Washington and Katie Klosterman both homered in the win over Northeastern State
  • Billingsley recorded the shutout of Henderson State, pitching all seven innings and allowing just three hits with six walks and two strikeouts
  • Hilzer picked up the win in game two, allowing three hits in six innings of work
