MWSU Looks to Keep Pace In MIAA Standings

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Missouri Western Baseball will play its final regular season games at home against Lincoln starting on Friday at 6 p.m.

Previewing Missouri Western 
The Griffons are 31-16 overall and hold a 23-13 MIAA record. It's the first time all season the Griffons have lost four straight games and they currently sit fourth in the MIAA standings. They have locked up a spot in the MIAA tournament along with Central Missouri, Washburn, Emporia State and Missouri Southern.

Offensively, the Griffons are hitting .332 as a team and average 8.5 runs per game through 47 games. Landon Mason and David Glaude are both hitting over .400, combining for 136 hits. Jeremy Alvarado continues to lead the team with 13 home runs on the year. MWSU relies on Nick Gawley and Orencio Fisher for speed on the base paths. Gawley has 16 stolen bases and Fisher has 23 stolen bases.

The pitching staff allows opponents to hit .294 and have combined for 270 strikeouts on the season. Richard Peoples is 8-3 on the year, pitching 70 innings and striking out 47 batters. Preston Bailey has a team-low 3.78 ERA in 22 appearances. Alex Clavet, Evan Jones and  Weston Caindec has tallied 14 wins combined.

This will be the last home series for Griffon Baseball Seniors: Orencio Fisher, Mike Calimeño, Chris Estrada, Brandon Downs, Weston Caindec, Conner Schwienebart, Marcus Brown, and David Anderson

Previewing Lincoln
Lincoln is 1-45 this year and has an 0-36 record in the MIAA. The last win for the Blue Tigers came on February 21 against Truman State 12-11. 

Mike Million is hitting .336 this year and has tallied 50 hits and 28 runs. He has six home runs and 25 RBIs as well. Mason Price leads the team with nine home runs and 29 RBIs. Five other Blue Tigers are hitting over .230 on the season. 

On the mound, nine players have tallied double-digit strikeouts. Zach Maskill leads the team with 61.1 innings pitched and 35 strikeouts. Trevor Schnieders is 1-4 on the season in 15.1 innings of work.
