ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Missouri Western Baseball will look to extend its seven game winning streak at home against Northwest Missouri State on Tuesday evening, starting 7.

Previewing Missouri Western

The Griffons are 28-11 overall and 20-8 in the MIAA. Missouri Western currently sits in second place in the MIAA standings behind Central Missouri. The Griffons have won seven straight games, including a sweep of Fort Hays State and Central Oklahoma. Last week, the Griffons beat the Bearcats 8-2 in Maryville.

Offensively, Missouri Western continues to dominate opponents, hitting .339 as a team and outscoring teams 357-261 on the year. Landon Mason and David Glaude are both hitting over .400 this year, tallying 56 and 59 hits respectively. The Griffons power comes from Jeremy Alvarado, Cosimo Cannella, and Brandon Downs combining to hit 30 home runs this year. MWSU's Orencio Fisher and Nick Gawley have stolen 21 and 14 bases this year.

Richard Peoples is now 7-3 this year and has pitched a team hit 59 innings. Preston Bailey has a team-low 3.70 ERA and a team-high 50 strikeouts. Alex Clavet, Evan Jones, and Weston Caindec have all picked up at least four wins this year.

Previewing Northwest Missouri State

Northwest Missouri State sits at 21-17 this season and 16-12 in the MIAA. The Bearcats are in sixth in the MIAA standings. Northwest Missouri earned a sweep this past weekend against Southwest Baptist.

Kevin Handzlik leads the Bearcats, hitting .386 this year. James Holler and Garrett Fort each hit over .300 as well for Northwest Missouri St. Holler has hit a team-high five home runs and has a slugging percentage of .588.

On the mound, Anthony Caenepeel has a team-high 69.2 innings pitched and has struck out 61 batters this year. Bryce Shea and Carson Smith have each picked up three wins this year.
