ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Missouri Western Baseball will look to extend their three game winning streak against rival Northwest Missouri State on Wednesday afternoon, starting at 2 p.m.
 
Previewing Missouri Western
 
The Griffons are now 24-11 overall and 16-8 in MIAA play. The Griffons recovered from a three game skid by sweeping Central Oklahoma this past weekend. Missouri Western is now sitting in tied for third in the MIAA with Washburn.
 
MWSU produced 54 runs, 48 hits, and 13 home runs last weekend in the three game sweep of Central Oklahoma. The Griffons as a team are hitting .337 this year through 35 games. Landon Mason and Jeremy Alvarado are the only Griffons hitting over .400. Alvarado leads the team with 12 home runs and is second on the team with 49 RBIs. Cosimo Cannella leads the team with 51 RBIs this year. Senior Orencio Fisher is 21 for 23 on stolen bases.
 
Preston Bailey remains 3-0 this year for the Griffons and has a team low 3.89 ERA. Bailey and Richard Peoples are the only Griffons with over 40 strikeouts. Alex Clavet and Weston Caindec have a combined record of 6-2 this year.
 
Previewing Northwest Missouri State
 
Northwest Missouri State currently sits 18-16 overall and 13-11 in MIAA play. They are sitting tied for sixth in the MIAA standings with Northeastern State. The Bearcats have won one of their last four games, beating Missouri Southern in the series finale on Sunday last weekend.
 
Three Bearcats are hitting over .300 this year including three other about .295. Kevin Handzlik leads the team with a .386 batting average. James Holler is hitting .325 and leads the team with five home runs.
 
Carson Smith has a team low 2.82 ERA and has tallied four saves in 22.1 innings pitched. Joseph Hietpas owns a 4-2 record this year, starting 10 games. Anthony Caenepeel leads the team with 61 strikeouts and 69.2 innings pitched.
