ST. JOSEPH – Griffon Baseball dropped its second straight game to Washburn, 11-2, Saturday at Griffon Park.
The Missouri Western offense was stymied by Washburn starter Nick Silva, who held the Griffons to two runs on four hits in nine innings of work.
Cosimo Cannella had two of the hits for Missouri Western, blasting a solo home run to left center in the ninth.
Griffon pitching was touched for 13 hits on the day and walked seven Ichabod batters.
Conner Schwienebart took the loss, going more than five innings. He allowed two in the first then kept Washburn scoreless over the next five, but was pulled after allowing two baserunners in the sixth. Schwienebart allowed four runs on five hits, striking out three and walking three.
The loss dropped Missouri Western to 4-5 on the year and 0-2 in the MIAA. The two teams will wrap up the three-game series on Sunday with a 1 p.m. first pitch.
