LAIE, Hawaii – It's hard for the other team to score when they don't have the ball.
That's how the Missouri Western women's basketball team (4-1) defeated BYU-Hawaii Saturday night, forcing 31 Seasider turnovers and limiting the host school to 49 points. On the other side, the visiting Griffons dropped 78, 34 off those turnovers.
The Griffons took a 43-22 lead to halftime after outscoring BYU-Hawaii 22-7 in the second quarter.
Chelsea Dewey had 12 of her game-high 19 points in the first half. The senior point guard led all scorers for the second straight game, chipping in five rebounds, seven assists and three steals.
Dwanisha Tate scored 12 points on 5-9 shooting from the field.
Savannah Lentz wasn't perfect from three-point range like she was on Friday night, but did manage to score 11 points on 3-10 shooting from long range.
Sefulu Faavae scored nine points with seven assists and a pair of steals in the second game of her return to Hawaii.
Missouri Western now brings its 4-1 record back to St. Joseph to host the Holiday Inn Express/Candlewood Suites Classic on Nov. 25 and 26. The Griffons begin play Friday night at 7 p.m. against Missouri S&T.
