ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Missouri Western picked up its second win in as many days against No. 22 Central Oklahoma Saturday afternoon. The Griffons won after a five-hit, five-run inning in the bottom of the fourth to pull ahead of the Bronchos.
After falling behind 2-0 in the top of the fourth inning, the Griffons came from behind to take the lead.
Dylon Koch singled up the middle followed by another single from
Ryan Degner. Each player advanced after a throwing error by Central Oklahoma, which moved
David Chew to first base.
With the bases loaded, catcher
Jake Schrader singled up the middle to score Koch.
Jeremy Monty followed that up with a single of his own to score Degner and advance Chew and Schrader another base.
After that, with two outs and the score tied at two,
Cody Childs doubled down the left-field line to score all three runners and put the Griffons up 5-2.
Missouri Western added a run in both the fifth and sixth innings to advance its lead to 7-2. Central Oklahoma put another run up on the board in the eighth, but it wasn't enough as Missouri Western won 7-3.
The Griffons had 12 hits on the day while the Bronchos had 11. Missouri Western was led by three players with multiple hits, including
Trevor LaHonta, Koch and Childs.
Tyler Sanders picked up the win and is 2-1 on the year. Bronchos' pitcher Jared Sterling fell to 4-2 on the season.
Central Oklahoma and Missouri Western will play its fourth and final game of the series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
