WBCA PINK OUT GAME SET FOR THIS SATURDAY IN THE FIELDHOUSE
In conjunction with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association breast cancer awareness initiative, Griffon Women's Basketball will host their Pink Out game on Saturday in the fieldhouse. We encourage all fans to wear pink as Griffon Women's Basketball will wear pink uniforms compliments of the Missouri Army National Guard. We'll be selling pink ribbons for $1.00 upon entry to the fieldhouse and at halftime of the men's game, we will present a check from the proceeds of October's Pink Week endeavor to the Heartland Auxiliary Breast Center.
BOY SCOUT AND YOUTH BASKETBALL DAY ALSO SET FOR SATURDAY
Also on Saturday, we welcome all area Boy Scouts and youth basketball players to attend the games free of charge. Participants will admitted free by wearing their uniform top.
Griffon Notes
• This marks the 38th season of Griffons women's basketball
• The Griffons will be under 2nd year head coach
Rob Edmisson who guided the Griffons to a 16-12 overall record and 8-10 in MIAA play. The Griffons went 1-1 in the MIAA tournament a year ago defeating Pittsburg State 71-67 and falling to #13 Central Missouri 54-53.
• The Griffons have struggled away from the fieldhouse this season falling in nine of their ten road games which includes going 0-7 in MIAA play. The Griffons only road win of the season came against the Rockhurst Hawks on November 23 by a score of 63-59.
• On the other hand the Griffons have been pretty good at home going 8-2 in the fieldhouse and 4-2 in MIAA play in the fieldhouse. They beat the UNK Lopers in MIAA play back on January 6 but fell to Fort Hays State and Washburn. They also beat the Southwest Baptist Bearcats 73-63 as well as the Lincoln Blue Tigers 42-28 and the Lindenwood Lions 65-62 last week.
• Edmisson won a NAIA National Championship at Oklahoma State University in 2011-12.
• Saturday's meeting will mark the 76th all-time game against the Missouri Southern Lions. The Griffons lost earlier this season 65-50 on January 25 and lost last years meeting 78-76 both of which were in Joplin. The last time the Griffons and the Lions played in St. Joseph, Mo. was on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 when the Griffons fell 66-62.
• When the Griffons have at least one player score in double figures they are 7-10 on the season. When they don't have a player score in double figures they are 2-2.
• In two years under Edmisson the Griffons are 8-16 in road games and 2-15 in road MIAA games. They are 17-5 overall in home games and 10-5 in home MIAA games.
• Since 1988-89 the Griffons are 4-1 on February 15. They are 3-0 at home with one victory vacated and 1-1 on the road. The last time they played a team on the 15th in 2012 when they Griffons fell at Lincoln by a score of 68-56. The last time the Griffons played at home was in 2008 when they won 80-67 over NW Missouri State (Game was vacated). They have played Missouri Southern once on the 15th once which was in 2005 when they won 83-73 in St. Joseph.
• The Griffons were picked to finish 8th in both the Coaches and Media MIAA Preseason polls.

This marks the third meeting with coach
Rob Edmisson with the Lions as he sits 0-2 overall after losing last years and this seasons meeting in Joplin, Mo. Ronda Hubbard is 1-0 against the Griffons after being promoted to head coach for the Lions.
Series vs. the Lions:
The Lions and the Griffons have met 79 times on the hardwood in the history of the two schools, almost twice yearly since the first meeting, an 83-62 Griffon victory during the 1976-77 season. Missouri Western holds a 49-26 advantage over the Lions, including an outstanding 29-7 record in the MWSU Fieldhouse. When on the road, the stakes are a little more evenly matched, with Lions holding a 21-17 advantage. In games played at a neutral site, the Griffons are 3-0 all time against the Lions. Missouri Western had to vacate two victories against the Lions back in the 2006-2007 season due to NCAA violations. One at home and one on the road. The Lions have won the last 7 meetings with six of those meeting being in Joplin, Mo.
Struggles at the Free Throw Line
The Griffons have struggled at the free throw line shooting just 59.0-percent (286-485) on the season. Just two Griffons are shooting better than 70-percent on the season.
Struggles on the Road
The Griffons have made just 55.3-percent (110-199) of their free throws on the road. They are also getting outscored 66.9 to 56.8. The rebounding is even with both teams getting 35.6 rebounds per game but the Griffons have gotten out blocked 32 to 19. They shoot just 27.2-percent (44-162) form long range and 36.4-percent (207-568) from the field. The only player scoring in double figures on the road is Quenisha Locket averaging 10.7 points per game.
Balanced Attack
The Griffons have four active players who average 6.0 points per game or more and have nine active players who play 13 or more minutes a game. The Griffons do not have one player scoring in double figures. Nine different Griffons scored in the Griffons victory over Lindenwood. Thirteen different Griffons scored in the Griffon victory over Missouri Valley while ten different Griffons scored in the Griffons victory over the Southwest Baptist Bearcats. Ten different Griffons also scored against Missouri Southern. Nine different Griffons scored in their victory over Lincoln.
Rebounding Success
The Griffons have had success rebounding the ball this season averaging 3.0 more rebounds per game than their opponents. They have 102 more offensive rebounds on the season.
Tiara Hall and
Quenisha Lockett lead the way with 6.0 and 6.1 rebounds per game respectively. In their last victory over Lindenwood the Griffons got outrebounded 42-38 but did outrebound the Lions 14-8 on the offensive end when led to 12 second chance points. Against Lincoln they outrebounded the Blue Tigers 39-32 and had 14 offensive rebounds to Lincoln's 8. Against SBU they had 41 rebounds to the Bearcats 34. Both teams had 14 offensive rebounds. Against Missouri Southern they outrebounded the Lions 39-27 and 22-1 on the offensive end of the floor.
Up Next
The Griffons return to MIAA action next week with a road contest on Wednesday, February 19 against Lincoln University in Jefferson City. Tip time is set for 5:30 pm. They will then be at home on Saturday, February 22 against NW Missouri State. This game will be Military Appreciation Day for the Griffons. Tip time is set for 1:30 pm.
