rd Annual Hillyard Tip-Off Classic. The Griffons will face Rockurst on Friday and William Jewell on Saturday. Both games will tip-off at 7 p.m.
Missouri Western enters the season coming off a 10-18 performance in head coach
Brett Weiberg's first year with the program. The Griffons went 5-14 in the MIAA and finished the year 8-6 in the MWSU Fieldhouse and 1-11 away from St. Joseph.
Leading scorer,
Ryan Devers returns this season. The senior guard averaged 17.4 points for the Griffons last season and was second on the team, averaging 4.5 rebounds per game. The team's second leading scorer from 2013-14,
Cortrez Colbert also returns this year. Colbert averaged 13.4 points per contest and trailed only Devers with his 4.1 rebounds per game. Colbert was also the team's leading shot blocker with 13, total, a season ago.
Seven players return overall for the Griffons with two transfers and four freshmen looking to figure into the action.
The Hillyard Tip-Off Classic begins on Friday at 5 p.m. when Northwest Missouri State takes on William Jewell. The Bearcats will face Rockhurst on Saturday at 5 p.m. Saturday morning, the men's basketball team will host the Hillyard Tip-Off Classic Youth Clinic. The clinic is free for boys in grades 2-6 and runs from 10 a.m. until noon. The first 250 participants will receive a free t-shirt and a ticket to that evening's Griffon game. No RSVP is required.
