Historic Season Continues for Soccer Seniors

Four Seniors to Be Honored Friday Night

Sydney Andrews and the Griffon defense have held opponents to 0.69 goals per game.
Friday, Oct. 31, 7 p.m. – Missouri Western (9-6-1, 6-5-1 MIAA) vs. Northwest Missouri State (6-9-1, 3-8-1 MIAA)
Sunday, Nov. 2, 1 p.m. – Missouri Western vs. #9 Central Missouri (15-0-1, 12-0-0 MIAA)

ST. JOESPH, Mo, - Overall, the Griffons are now 9-6-1 and close out the regular season this weekend with a pair of matches.Friday night Northwest Missouri State will be in Spratt Stadium for the final home game at 7 p.m. Prior to the game, we will recognize the Griffon seniors in pregame ceremonies. Then on Saturday, the Griffons travel to Central Missouri for a rematch at 1 p.m.

A record setting season continues to produce more "firsts" as the Griffons went 1-1 in matches played over the weekend.  On Friday, the Griffons were defeated by unbeaten Central Missouri 3-1.  All of the scoring was done in the first half as K.C. Ramsell scored the Griffon goal, her third of the season in the 22nd minute.  On Sunday after falling behind early, the Griffons tied the game in the 68th minute as Ashlyn Powers scored her first career goal and then in overtime Sydney Andrews delivered the game winner as the Griffons knocked off Lindenwood 2-1.  The game sets a new school record for wins with nine, clinches the first winning regular season in its ten year existence and has clinched a spot in the MIAA Postseason Tournament for the first time ever.
 
SENIOR DAY:
Today we honor four Griffon seniors who play their last regular season match at Spratt Stadium. It's been a memorable year for K.C Ramsell, Teddi Serna, Tara Russell and A.J. Powers. The Griffons have set a new high for wins in a season, shutouts in a season, longest win streak and several other program records. This senior class has also helped propel the program to its first ever birth in the MIAA Tournament and first ever NCAA Division II Central Region ranking. Griffon Athletics thanks these four student-athletes for their contributions and wishes them luck in their future endeavors.

Scouting the Griffons – The Griffons continue to improve offensively and defensively moving themselves up the ranks in the MIAA. The Griffons are tied for fourth in the MIAA with 13.81 shots per game and rank eighth in the MIAA averaging 1.06 goals per game. On defense, MWSU is allowing an average of 0.69 goals per games while producing eight shut-outs this season.

Tara Russell ranks eighth in the MIAA with an average of 2.88 goals per game including three game-winning goals scored. Missouri Western has seven players with at least 15 shots this season lead by Russell, K.C. Ramsell and Sydney Cluck. Sarah Lyle continues to perform in goal for the Griffons allowing only 11 goals this season which averages to 0.66 goals per game. She has also accumulated 71 saves ranking her fifth in the conference.

Scouting the Bearcats – The Bearcats have a record of 6-9-1 overall and a 3-8-1 record in MIAA competition. Northwest Missouri has four individuals with multiple goals this year. They are led by Ashley Cole with four goals and Jessica Spradley with three goals. In goal will be Ashley Malloy posting a save percentage of .833 and 100 total saves this season. She has also posted four shut-out this season.

Scouting the Jennies – Central Missouri continues to roll this season moving their record to 15-0-1 and 12-0 in conference play. The Jennies have outscored their opponents this season 42 to 10, averaging 2.62 goals per game and allowing 0.62 goals per game; each leading the conference in that category. Julie Ireland and Alex Yockey each have seven goals followed by Mikala Modiri and Hannah Pyle each adding five goals. In goal, Ana Dilkes has accumulated 64 total goals and records a .865 save percentage.
