ST. JOESPH, Mo. – With seven matches to play in the regular season, the Griffons are one game behind Nebraska-Kearney for first place in the MIAA and embark on a busy week.  Tomorrow night, Pink Week continues as the Griffons host Lindenwood at 7 PM.

The Griffons
Missouri Western went 1-1 this past weekend claiming a 3-0 win over Missouri Southern but lost in a close four set match to Central Oklahoma on Saturday night. The Griffons continue to remain in the top portion of the MIAA in many statistical categories. As a team, the Griffons have a hitting percentage of .258 to lead the conference and also sit third in assist per game with 13.05 per set. MWSU also averages 14.10 kills per set which places them third in the MIAA.
 
Individually, the Griffons rely on a bevy of players to contribute to the success this season. Jessie Thorup and Amanda Boender each sit in the top-10 of the MIAA in hitting percentage each hitting .303 and .305 respectively. The offense continues to be run through Jordan Chohon who is averaging 11.77 assist per set to lead the MIAA.  Sarah Faubel continues to add to the all-time digs record, averaging 3.69 per set this season. The Griffons are on pace for its first 20-win season since 2000 and still find themselves in the hunt for their first ever MIAA title.
 
The Lions
Last weekend, the Lions couldn't find a victory at home taking on Washburn University and Emporia State losing 3-0 in each match. Lindenwood has five players averaging over 2.00 kills per set. Shannon Doyle, Kayla Guyot, Jessica Krygsheld get the majority of swings for the offense each accumulating over 400 total attacks. The Lions have multiple players averaging over 5.00 assist per set with Sarah-Jane Pavlik and Ivy Reynolds posting 7.74 and 5.01 respectively. On defense, Sarah Makowski sits third in the MIAA averaging 1.26 blocks per set and Anna Reichert averages 4.09 digs per set placing her ninth in the conference.
 
Pink Week
In conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness month, Griffon Athletics will be hosting the 6th Annual Pink Week October 24-31.
 
At the home volleyball & soccer games during this time, Pink Week t-shirts will be sold for the cost of a donation (minimum $5.00 or more is suggested).   Pink ribbons will also be sold for $1.00 with all of the proceeds being donated to the Heartland Auxiliary Breast Center at Heartland Regional Medical Center with this year's goal being set at $2500.
 
Through the first five years of Pink Week, over $6,000 has been raised toward this great cause.  Admission to Griffon Volleyball games are $6.00 for adults and $2.00 youth with children 6 and under being admitted FREE.  Tickets are available at gogriffons.com or may be purchased 90 minutes prior to the game at the box office.
