The Missouri Western women's basketball team, will continue MIAA play after the holiday break. The Griffons will be on the road for two MIAA contests the first week of January. MWSU first action since December 8, 2012 will be on Thursday, January 3 against MIAA newcomer Central Oklahoma in Edmond, Okla. The Griffons will continue road MIAA play on Saturday, January 5 in Joplin, Mo. to take on the Missouri Southern Lions. Both games are scheduled for 5:30 pm.

Griffon Notes
• This marks the 37th season of Griffons women's basketball
• The Griffons are under first year head coach Rob Edmisson who became the eighth head coach in Griffons history on March 29, 2012, he has led them to its best start since the 2004-2005 season when they started 8-2.
• The Griffons have had five different starting line ups this season...the Griffons are 4-1 when starting, Griswold, Dever, Howard, Bell and Lawrence and 2-0 when starting Howard, J. Lewis, Dever, Bell and Lawrence.
• The Griffons have defeated four GLVC opponents in non-conference action. The Griffons defeated, Illinois-Springfield 57-54, Maryville University 74-68 on the road and Quincy University, 81-67, Rockhurst, 67-63 at home.
• In MIAA home openers since the 2001-2002 season the Griffons are just 4-6 with one win vacated due to NCAA violations.
• The Griffons are 13-11 since joining the MIAA in season openers...The Griffons are 8-8 overall on the road and 5-3 at home in MIAA openers (since 1989-1990).
• The Griffons beat a Division I team for just the second time in history when they beat UMKC . The Griffons only victory against a Division I opponent was on November 21, 1997 when they defeated IUPU-Indianpolis, 70-49.
• The Griffons victory against #7 Metro State was their first over a top-25 team since January 26, 2011 when MWSU defeated 14th ranked Emporia State 78-71 in the MWSU Fieldhouse.
• In road MIAA openers. The Griffons are 11-11 overall in MIAA road openers. The Griffons vacated one victory due to NCAA violoations in 2006-2007. The Griffons have not won an MIAA road opener since 12/10/05 when they defeated Pittsburg State 65-52. The beat Washburn 76-68 on 12/9/06 but that game had to be vacated.
• The Griffons were picked to finish 11th in the MIAA coaches preseason poll and 12th in the MIAA media preseason poll.

Coaches vs. Each Program - UCO:
Neither coach has faced one another at the previous school.

Series vs. the Bronchos:
This will be the fifth meeting all-time with the Bronchos. The Griffons lead the all-time series 4-0. The Griffons are 2-0 on a neutral court, 1-0 at home and 1-0 on the road. The Griffons last beat the Bronchos 73-71 on November 26, 2005 in Lawton, Okla. The Griffon defeated the Bronchos 63-44 in the 1987-88 season at home and 57-49 during the 1988-89 season on the road. The Griffons other victory came on December 16, 2003 by a score of 73-62 in Las Vegas, Nev.

Coaches vs. Each Program - MSSU:
This marks the first meeting for coach Edmisson and the Lions. Maryann Mitts is 11-15 all time against MWSU. She is 9-3 in Joplin and 2-9 in St. Joseph. She is also 0-3 in neutral site games.

Series vs. the Lions:
The Lions and the Griffons have met 77 times on the hardwood in the history of the two schools, almost twice yearly since the first meeting, an 83-62 Griffon victory during the 1976-77 season. Missouri Western holds a 49-24 advantage over the Lions, including an outstanding 29-7 record in the MWSU Fieldhouse. When on the road, the stakes are a little more evenly matched, with Lions holding a 19-17 advantage. In games played at a neutral site, the Griffons are 3-0 all time against the Lions. Missouri Western had to vacate two victories against the Lions back in the 2006-2007 season due to NCAA violations. One at home and one on the road.

The Griffons will travel Kearney, Neb. on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 to take on the University of Nebrakas-Kearney in MIAA action. Game time is set for 5:30 pm.
