TOPEKA, Kan. - The Missouri Western volleyball team won a pair of matches in five sets defeating Southeastern Oklahoma State and East Central. The Griffons improve to 12-8 on the season with the victory.
After gettting out to a 2-0 lead against the Savage Storm the Griffons had to battle back winning the fifth set 18-16. The Griffons had five players in double digit kills with
Meredith McCormick leading the way with 13.
Stephanie Hattey finished with 31 set assists while
Jordan Chohon had 26.
Brooke Cousino and Hattey both had 20 digs.
In the second match of the day the Griffons got down 2-1 after winning the first set. MWSU battled tough winning set four 27-25 and set five 15-9 giving them their 12th win of the season. Once again the Griffons had a balanced attack with four players getting dougle digit kills. Melissa Carins led the way with 16 while
Amanda Boender and Jessie Throup added 12 apiece. Hattey ahd 33 sets assists while Carins led the defensive charge with 24 digs.
For the third time this season Hattey was named to an All-Tournament team.

MWSU returns to MIAA play on Tuesday, October 9th when they travel to Hays, Kan. to take on the Fort Hays State Tigers. Match time is set for 7:00 pm.
